Jake's Pizza
Trying out a new pizza place? Count me in! I stopped by Jake's Pizza to see what all the buzz was about. After more than 40 years of serving pizza in Green Bay, Jake's has built a strong local reputation, so I was excited to give it a try.
Walking into Jake's Pizza is a unique experience. The restaurant has a lot of character and a classic neighborhood feel. Metal tiles line the ceilings and walls, giving the space a distinct atmosphere with plenty to catch your eye.
If you're looking for a quick meal, Jake's may not be the best option. According to the menu, the expected cook time for a 14-inch pizza is around 45 minutes, and wait times can grow longer during busy hours. They also note that ovens may shut down before closing depending on how busy the restaurant is.
As for the pizza itself, the crust really stood out to me. It almost has a pan pizza feel while still being fairly thin, which made for a unique style I had not experienced before.
The biggest downside for me was the sauce. We ordered cheesy breadsticks with their traditional pizza sauce and immediately noticed a distinct chili-like flavor. After a few bites, it became pretty clear there was some sort of chili seasoning or spice blended into the sauce. While I enjoy chili on its own, the flavor combination just didn't vibe with me when it came to pizza.
Overall, Jake's Pizza is an interesting local spot with a lot of personality and a unique style of pizza. While I can understand why it has a loyal following, I personally prefer places like Rustique Pizzeria or Sammy's Pizza when I'm looking for pizza in the Green Bay area.
